Marvol: Intimate Small Plates & Craft Cocktails in Appleton, WI

We dined there last weekend, to confirm it is a small place (four tables and a couple of counter seats) but it does hit above its weight class! The service was very good, the cocktail and wine list were well done, and the small plates menu was well curated. The menu changes monthly - but the hits were the beet salad and squash soup - excellent! (It’s quite intimate so I didn’t take pictures but the others pictures give you a good idea). Definitely recommend.

The place was another level, especially for Appleton! The service was beyond top notch as the bartender was super friendly and chatted the whole time including the other staff. The food was incredible small dishes plus some Uber fancy cocktails as the old fashioned came with a little bit side dish to eat along with it.

Decided to check this place out and didn't see any open reservations so decided to stop in earlier in the evening to see if they had any availability. Fortunately they were able to fit us in between some other reservations and was glad they did. The menu changes every week or so. We had the oysters, salmon, dip, affogato, and candied pecans for food. They were all very good and different than things you can get in most places around here. For a drink. I had the old fashioned and it was one of the best I've had. It even came with a little side that you could eat alongside sipping. The ambiance is really cool inside and unassuming from the outside. It's a good bit smaller than I expected, with only three two top tables, one four top table, and four seats at the bar. The ambiance inside and the service we're both great. Certainly a great addition to the neighborhood and great place for a date night. Highly recommend checking it out. Just make reservations as they fully book out, but don't be afraid to check last minute by calling or stopping by. Seems like occasionally they have some dead times to squeeze people in or last minute cancellations.

Possibly the best meal I have had in Appleton. Incredible experience, wonderful atmosphere, amazing bites, impeccable service. Highly recommend would love this place to become an Appleton staple.

I was a little unsure if the size of the meals would be enough for me. As soon as we sat down for our reservation, the bartender explained to us that they served small plates meant to share and you can order as you go. Perfect! We started with handcrafted cocktails, which were fantastic, and the sea trout. The plates came out quick and it was nice to try a variety of the options. We cannot wait to go back, and see what options are featured next time!

Since moving to Appleton from Chicago ten years ago, we've struggled to find this level of culinary excellence locally. Marvol absolutely nailed it. Every small plate was a revelation, perfectly balanced and bursting with flavor. It was, hands down, the best meal I've had since relocating. Our server, Joy, lived up to her name - warm, attentive, and genuinely delightful. She added to the magic of the evening with her gracious presence. Appleton has long needed a place like Marvol, and we couldn't be more thrilled it's finally here. If you're looking for a dining experience that's intimate, elevated, and unforgettable, Marvol it is. We need more places like this in town.

We dropped in late one evening and were pleasantly surprised. The dining room is warm and inviting. There are only 14 seats, so you will really need to make a reservation online. We were lucky that a reservation canceled. We got to meet the entire staff and they were great. They made us feel at home. The drinks were excellent. We had several different cocktails. I ordered from the menu while my wife had Mitch make what he wanted to for her and he hit the mark every time. The food was fantastic. It's a tapas style meal, so you get to try and share different plates. The menu changes weekly and they use great fresh ingredients. The food and drink menu are well thought out with really balanced dishes. We will be back for sure and would highly recommend it

With just two 2-tops, one 4-top, and four bar seats, it’s one of the most intimate dining experiences you’ll find: tiny, elegant, and absolutely unforgettable. Chef/owner Adam has created a refined small plates concept, and Patrick — who is on loan from the Commodore’s Club — is crafting a cocktail program that promises to elevate this space even further. Patrick is also my consummate host for the evening. The menu is handwritten weekly, inspired by what the chef finds fresh and compelling. And in this case, it’s not just about ingredients, it’s about soul. Devin, the solo chef de cuisine, orchestrates the kitchen with passion and precision. Every plate feels like an expression of his personality: thoughtful, balanced, and subtly daring. He looks happy, comfortable and confident in his space. I started with a glass of Italian Grillo alongside the burrata and prosciutto. The pepper was bold—perhaps too much on its own—but when paired with the creamy burrata, honey and airy focaccia, it unfolded beautifully into layers of flavor. Truly amazing. Next, a glass of Iconoclast 2022 from the Stags Leap District—elegant and expressive—was the perfect companion for the salmon dip: smoked salmon, crème fraîche, and black pepper. That’s it. But the restraint is intentional. The smoke and purity of the salmon shine without distraction, elevated by more of that focaccia, kissed with just enough pepper to sing in harmony. The magic of Marvol is not just in the food and wine, it’s the choreography of a perfectly tuned team: one chef, one bartender, one waiter, and one dishware coordinator. Every member contributes to the symphony, moving with fluid professionalism and cheerful camaraderie. Their banter is light, their timing exact, their attention to each other and the guest experience flawless. This isn’t just a meal. It’s an elegant performance — quiet, focused, and full of heart.
